Orchid eCommerce 2.0 – System Overhaul Phase 1 and Phase 2
Over the last few months, we’ve been investing in significant enhancements to our eCommerce platform (known as Phase 1 of our upgrade). The end of September will come with a major release that will provide users with the most modern technology available, meant to surpass major platforms such as WordPress, WooCommerce, Big Commerce and others, but made specifically for the firearms industry (Phase 2). The update will also provide users with an easy-to-use website builder, be optimized for mobile use, and will provide full-theme and CSS level access.
The first phase of the rebuild is now complete and being pushed to production and includes the following features.
Brand management
· Brand has moved out of Firearm Attributes and now sits beside the Manufacturer dropdown.
· Manage your own brands in Table Editor: add, rename, and remove brands for your store.
· Create a new brand directly from the Edit Product popup.
· Removing a brand takes it out of the dropdown without changing products already assigned to it, matching how Manufacturer works.
Back-in-stock notifications
· Submitting the "Notify me when back in stock" form consistently works.
· The notification form now fits on screen, so you no longer need to zoom out to reach the submit button.
· Product names and descriptions containing quotation marks now display correctly in the notification popup.
· The product inquiry button label is now configurable under Product Visibility settings.
· Back-in-stock emails now send reliably after inventory is added.
eCommerce Storefront product page redesign
· Redesigned product detail page with a cleaner layout, refreshed typography, and consistent product cards.
· Product information is now organized into two tabs: Overview and Details.
· MSRP, Condition, and UPC now appear at the top of the product page beside the product image.
· Related products use the same card design and the same MSRP / Sale price styling as the main listing.
· In-stock and out-of-stock icons now show on product group listings.
· Redesigned filter sidebar on product group pages.
· Back in Stock notifications and Call to Order popups redesigned so they are readable and can be closed.
Pricing display
· Product listings and product pages can now show up to three prices: MSRP, Online price, and Sale price.
· When a product has a sale price, both MSRP and Online price are struck through and the sale price is shown.
· Without a sale price, MSRP is struck through and the Online price is shown.
New Arrivals home-page section
· New "New Arrivals" section on the storefront home page, configured under Online > Build & Manage Site > Home Page Menu > New Arrivals Selections.
· Choose which product groups appear and in what order.
· Set the number of products per row and the number of rows.
· Paging through New Arrivals keeps your row and column settings.
· "All" shows every selected product group; the eye icon opens a quick-view popup; clicking a product opens its product page.
· The New Arrivals setting is available even when the Storefront setting is turned off, so you can prepare it ahead of launch.
To access these options, navigate to: Online > Build & Manage Site > Site Title & Analytics > Products Page Design 2. Enable Products Page Design 2 to make all of these options available.
In-store pickup for ammo on mobile "Pick Up In-Store" is now selectable for ammunition when shopping on mobile, matching how it already worked on desktop and for other product types. Previously, mobile customers couldn't choose in-store pickup for ammo and were pushed toward shipping instead. This change ensures consistent checkout experience across devices and lets ammo buyers select pickup regardless of how they shop.
Filter by firearm action A new "Action" filter has been added to the storefront's product filters, allowing customers to narrow results by action type. This enhancement gives shoppers a faster way to find the firearm they're looking for.
Two-column product listings on mobile Product group pages now display two items per row on mobile, rather than one. This provides a more compact, scannable layout that shows more of your catalog at once, and it applies consistently across devices.
Correct tax handling for exempt customers Previously, tax could still be applied to an exempt customer in some cases. This fix ensures exempt accounts are billed accurately and eliminates the need for manual corrections or refunds.
We’re excited to welcome 9 new customers to Orchid eComm! We appreciate the trust and partnership of these customers as they begin their journey with Orchid eComm.
Recurring billing authorization and renewal reminders for memberships We've added controls around how the recurring billing card is assigned to a membership. When a card different from the one on file is used at checkout for a member, staff are now prompted to either authorize it for future renewals or use it as a one-time payment. This prevents a friend's card, a temporary card, or a one-time payment from unintentionally replacing the recurring card. When the existing card on file is used again, checkout proceeds normally with no prompt. In addition, an optional renewal reminder email can be sent to members seven days before their renewal date, including the masked card on file and instructions for updating it; this is off by default. Members are also notified automatically whenever the billing card on their membership is added or changed.
Improved item entry at the register Previously, certain items could return an unexpected "coupon expired" message when chosen from the dropdown, preventing them from being added and requiring staff to re-enter the barcode manually. Items now add consistently on the first attempt, keeping checkout moving.
Cash drawer name on Count In / Count Out prints Count In and Count Out printouts now include the cash drawer name. For stores running multiple registers, this makes it easier to match each report to the correct drawer when reconciling and reviewing end-of-day paperwork.
GunBroker holds released on listing removal When a GunBroker listing is removed or deleted, the held quantity is now released back to available stock automatically. Previously, this only happened when a listing sold or closed normally; a deleted listing could leave units stuck as "held" with nothing holding them, affecting inventory counts and blocking relisting. On-hand quantities now stay accurate without manual cleanup.
"Hide Completed Transfers" toggle on the Inbound Transfer Report The Inbound Transfer Report now includes a "Hide Completed Transfers" toggle, defaulted to on. By default, the report shows only active and pending transfers, so completed ones no longer clutter the view. The toggle can be turned off at any time to display all transfers, including completed. This makes the report faster to scan for stores with high transfer volume.
Failed vendor transmissions visible on the PO screen Failed vendor transmission status is now surfaced on the purchase order search screen. Previously, this status could only be seen by opening each PO individually. Failed transmissions are now flagged with a clear indicator, a banner shows the number of failed POs in the current results, and the list can be filtered to failures only. Failed POs can also be resent directly from the list using a Retry action, making it much easier to identify and resolve transmission problems.
Auxiliary Description on trade-ins and consignments The Auxiliary Description field is now available on the trade-in and consignment intake pages and upload forms. It has been positioned directly beneath the Primary Description to match the order in which it prints on tags. This gives you a clear place to record details such as included magazines, the original box, or item condition, and ensures that information carries through to the printed tag.
Zanders integration (beta) A direct Zanders distributor integration is now available in beta, providing live catalog, pricing, and ordering within Orchid. We are currently looking for stores to use the integration and provide feedback ahead of a wider release. If you work with Zanders and would like early access, please contact us.
We’re excited to welcome 8 new customers to Orchid POS! Thank you for choosing Orchid as your POS partner.
