Using a Mobile Hotspot or Cell Phone as Internet Backup
Using Your Mobile Device to Connect to Your Orchid POS Software
- Enable Wireless HotSpot on your device
- Android Devices (using Android version 2.2 and later):
- Open the Settings menu on your Android device
- Navigate to Wireless and Networks > More Networks > Mobile HotSpot
- Toggle the Mobile Hotspot setting to 'On'
- This screen will show your DEVICE NAME (i.e. "Dave's Phone" or "Verizon-SM12345") as well as a PASSWORD. Remember this information, you will need it to connect later.
- Apple Devices (including iPhones and iPads):
- Open the Settings menu on your Apple device
- Select Personal Hotspot > Toggle ON
- This screen will show your DEVICE NAME and WiFi PASSWORD. Remember these, you will need them to connect later.
- Connect your Orchid POS workstation to the wireless hotspot
- View available wireless connections by clicking the WiFi status icon (in the lower right corner next to the clock)
- Locate the hotspot in the list of available connections
- Connection name: This will be the same as your device name
- Password / Security Key: This can be found in the Mobile Hotspot settings menu of your device.
- Open your Google Chrome web browser to verify that you are connected successfully.
- Navigate to any web page to verify connectivity. If the page loads, the connection was a success.
USB Tethering (Connect your mobile device to your Orchid POS workstation via USB cable)
- Enable Tethering on your device
- Android: Settings > Wireless and Networks > More Networks > Tethering
- Toggle USB tethering ON
- Apple: Settings > Personal Hotspot > Toggle ON
- Open your Google Chrome browser to verify that you are connected successfully.
- To disconnect, simply turn the Tethering setting OFF or unplug the USB cable
